Project Details
The purpose of updating the GSMP is to provide a strategic technical plan for the long-term development of the gas sector in Bangladesh. The sector faces a critical point as domestic supplies are dwindling and additional supplies will require increased investment and an opening of the sector to global trade. The least cost option to increase supply will likely entail optimizing production from known reserves, increasing exploration, development of new reserves and, possibly, improving the efficiency of gas consumption. Beyond these options, gas imports represent a viable, albeit more costly, option to increasing supply. The primary objective of the updated GSMP would be to identify a possible path for developing additional supply and to lay the foundations for informed policy making.
